Social media platform Twitter recently removed the blue verification tick from several high-profile accounts, including those of Bollywood celebrities, politicians, and cricketers. The move was met with reactions from Indian celebrities, with some playfully trolling the lost blue tick.
Amidst this, veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who also lost his blue tick, took control of the situation and requested the blue verification tick be restored to his account. He joked about having paid the monthly fee of Rs 650 for the tick, but it had not yet appeared on his page. He then appealed to "Twitter brother" Elon Musk to restore it.
Twitter obliged and restored Bachchan's blue tick. The actor took to Twitter to express his gratitude to Musk in his characteristic style, by combining Musk's name with the lyrics of the song "Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast" from the 1994 film Mohra.
However, the blue tick disappeared again when Bachchan added the Indian flag to his username. After a few minutes, the blue tick was again restored.
Several other high-profile individuals, including Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, also lost their verified blue ticks from their Twitter accounts temporarily.
The blue verification tick, once a sign of authenticity and pride among celebrities worldwide, can now be obtained for a monthly fee. The latest upgrade on the social networking platform has been met with mixed reactions from users.
